First Time in College Applicants Test Scores
FAMU accepts the highest test component of all tests taken and we encourage you to send all results. When you select score choice all scores will not be submitted. Official SAT or ACT scores must be submitted directly from the testing agency. Effective for summer 2011 we will discontinue the use of SAT total or ACT composite for admission evaluations. Admission will be based on the following test components:
- SAT - Math - 460, Critical Reading - 460, Writing - 440 or
- ACT Reading - 19, Math - 19, English/Writing 18

First Time in College (FTIC) Applicants
- 4 units of English (at least three with substantial writing requirements)
- 4 units of mathematics (Algebra I and above) - (effective summer 2011)
- 3 units of natural science (at least two with laboratory)
- 3 units of social science
- 2 sequential units of the same foreign language (If you are admitted and have not completed two units of foreign language while in high school it is mandatory that you complete two semesters prior to graduation from Florida A&M - NO EXCEPTIONS).
Additional units should be in the above courses. Required Courses and Units: First year applicants (an academic unit is a year-long course which is not remedial in nature) Grade Point Average Weighting The grade point average is re-calculated based on core courses. When calculating the grade point average, additional weight is assigned for International Baccalaureate (IB), Honors (H), Dual Enrollment, and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Weight is assigned as indicated: IB - 1; Dual Enrolled - 1; Advanced Placement - 1; AICE - 1; Honors - .5.
Grade Point Average Requirement The grade point average is recalculated and applicants must have a minimum of 2.55 - 2.99.
Transcripts Completers of high school by GED must provide an official copy of test scores (as well as a partial high school transcript). If you have taken dual-enrollment classes through a college or university while in high school, you must have an official transcript sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions even if they appear on your high school transcript. A 2.0 GPA is required for dual enrollment courses. If you have taken Advanced Placement, CLEP or IB exams, you must have official score reports sent to Undergraduate Admissions.
